World War II Honour Roll Book Dedication/100th Anniversary Remembrance Service

In 2011, the Kelvin 1ooth Anniversary Reunion Committee decided to take on the project of recreating one of the 1946 World War II Honour Roll Books, containing the names of those whose surnames begin with the letters M to Z,  that disappeared from the school more than 10 years ago. We will be hosting a Dedication and Remembrance Service at the Memorial Alcove on the Main Floor at noon on Saturday, May 26th. This Service is open to all veterans, students, staff,  alumni, and others who wish to attend. It is intended to be in Remembrance of all those who have served in Her Majesty’s Forces over Kelvin’s 100 year history, and to dedicate the new World War II Honour Roll Book.

The Service is planned to include participation by singers from the Kelvin Choir, students from the school, an honour guard from the #6 Jim Whitecross Royal Canadian Air Force Cadet Squadron, and the ANAVETS Rockwood Unit 303 Pipe Band under the direction of Pipe Major and Kelvin alumnus Robyn McCombe. The Service will include the Anthems, a Prayer of Dedication, The Act of Remembrance, The Last Post, Two Minutes Silence, The Lament, The Rouse, and the Placing of Wreaths. The service will be followed by a special presentation by Kelvin students of their War Memorial Projects, and  a full length screening of alumnus Cliff Chadderton’s War Amps’ film “THE BOYS OF KELVIN HIGH – Canadians in Bomber Command” in the Second Floor Theatre.

We thank all those participating in the service as well as The Royal Canadian Legion – Manitoba/Northwestern Ontario Command for the provision of poppies for those attending the service and the Canadian Department of Veterans Affairs for providing ‘Canada Remembers’ Lapel Pins for those attending the Reunion, as well as relevant publications and information for use in the school.
